Back in 1991, glam metal rockers SouthGang hit the small screen on a TV show called The Naked Truth —and no, sadly, no one was actually naked (that we know of). The band, made up of singer Jesse Harte, guitar-slinger Butch Walker, bassist Jayce Fincher, and drummer Mitch McLee, sat down for an interview that was equal parts music chat and ‘80s hair magic.
The guys talked about their wild ride into the music biz, the ups and downs of being in a band, and how they managed to keep their hair so perfectly teased. Okay, maybe not that last part—but they did open up about writing songs, life on the road, and how they were trying to stand out in a scene crowded with spandex, leather, and Aqua Net.
What made the interview fun was how down-to-earth (and slightly chaotic) they were. It wasn’t a stiff, serious rock-doc moment. It was more like four guys joking around, telling stories, and occasionally remembering to plug their music.
It’s a nostalgic blast from the past — and a reminder that before Butch Walker became a mega-producer, he was shredding guitar solos and cracking jokes with his band bros on late-night TV.
