Saigon Kick – Hostile Youth

Released in 1992 as the second track on their sophomore album The Lizard, “Hostile Youth” showcases the band’s ability to blend aggressive guitar riffs with melodic hooks, creating a sound that’s both hard-hitting and memorable.

The video amplifies this intensity with a daring visual: lead vocalist Matt Kramer hanging from a helicopter mid-flight. While the director initially suggested the stunt, it was Kramer’s own idea to let go, adding an element of real danger to the shoot!

Produced by guitarist Jason Bieler, the album traverses various musical landscapes, from the thrashing energy of “Hostile Youth” to the acoustic balladry of “Love Is on the Way,” which became the band’s breakout hit, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning a gold certification.

Formed in 1988 in Coral Springs, Florida, Saigon Kick carved out a niche in the early ’90s rock scene with their eclectic sound. The original lineup of Matt Kramer (vocals), Jason Bieler (guitar), Tom DeFile (bass), and Phil Varone (drums) brought together elements of hard rock, heavy metal, and some so-called “alternative” influences.
